If you use G Suite applications—Docs, Sheets, and Slides—you can quickly create new documents directly from the address bar of your browser. Google has created a set of shortcuts that use .new at the end of a website address to trigger an action.

For G Suite applications:

  1. docs.new creates a new document in Google Docs

  2. sheets.new creates a new spreadsheet in Google Sheets

  3. slides.new creates a new presentation in Google Slides.

Typing these URLs into your address bar will trigger the associated action, and you can also bookmark these URLs to trigger the actions with a click.

Use of the .new trigger isn’t limited to Google products. Other services have created their own similar shortcuts.
